Last Epoch: a challenge for beginners and experienced players
Last Epoch is an action RPG suitable for both experienced players and beginners. It first appeared four years ago, initially in Early Access on Steam. Since then, the game has been gaining increasing popularity.
Last Epoch was developed by the small, independent indie studio Eleventh Hour Games (EHG). It is a so-called hack-and-slash action role-playing game. Hack and Slash (H&S) or Hack and Slay (HnS) in RPGs refers to a style of gameplay where combat with swords or blades (melee weapons) is the focus.
After some delays, the full game was finally released on February 21, 2024, in three editions (Standard, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition) for the public. The launch exceeded the developers’ expectations with more than 250,000 concurrent online players.
Time Travel in the World of Eterra
Last Epoch takes place in the world of Eterra across multiple timelines. Eterra is a world of gods and empires doomed to a dark future unless the past is changed and the all-consuming Void is stopped. As a player, you can embark on time-traveling adventures in this world, face furious gods and dark empires, fight against all sorts of odds, and find a way to survive. Your task: find the path to Eterra and escape the Void to achieve ultimate dominance. Last Epoch combines time travel with thrilling dungeon exploration, diverse character customization, and endless gameplay.
15 Mastery Classes and 120+ Skill Trees in Last Epoch
There are a total of 15 mastery classes in Last Epoch. Beginners start their adventure as a base class before later specializing in one of three mastery classes. Once you have chosen a mastery class, you can access new skills and specialize in a particular playstyle.
There are over 120 skill trees in Last Epoch. Each active skill has its own augmentation tree, which can completely change how a skill functions. For instance, you can transform your skeletons into archers, turn your lightning strike into chain lightning, or summon snakes with your serpent strike to fight alongside you.
Last Epoch Promises Rare and Powerful Loot
Naturally, Last Epoch offers rare and powerful loot. You can fill your arsenal with magical items you’ve crafted yourself or change the rules of a build with powerful unique and set items. The randomized loot system and regular updates in Last Epoch always promise new valuable loot to look forward to. However, farming for gold, gear, and honor can be quite exhausting in the long run. Here at Coinlooting, you can of course buy gold for a challenging game like Last Epoch to make your gameplay experience more enjoyable.
Echoes and Special Dungeons in the Endgame
Eterra, the world of Last Epoch, is home to many factions and even more secrets. Change the fate of the world by traveling to different points in time and fighting there to alter the future. But don’t celebrate too soon. Once you’ve finally saved Eterra from evil, the real game begins: the Endgame.
The Endgame starts with Echoes. These are areas accessible by higher-level characters through portals at the end of time. There are tasks to complete, with visible rewards beforehand. Completing individual Echoes also unlocks further areas with mages, guardians, and other characters. The Echoes are part of the Monoliths, where higher difficulty levels can be unlocked once all tasks are completed. At the end, even more valuable loot awaits the heroes.
The three dungeons are also part of the Endgame. To access them, you first need to obtain a key, likely dropped as loot in the Echoes. Each of the three dungeons offers unique gameplay features and special rewards for victorious heroes: one might offer powerful items from a lottery merchant, another allows you to forge a better, new item from two existing ones. Finally, there is an especially abundant treasure chamber in one of the Endgame dungeons of Last Epoch.
Variety of Customizable Classes and Skills
Compared to Diablo, the game that pioneered this genre, Last Epoch might tell a less extensive story. However, with its variety of different classes and skills, which can be customized, its challenging game systems, randomized loot, and continuous development, Last Epoch promises a very high replay value. Once you’ve immersed yourself in the game, it won’t let go of you, drawing you back again and again.
Last Epoch’s Latest Update Brings Back Many Players
After the player count on Steam exploded following the release of Last Epoch, with over 250,000 active players simultaneously on the platform, interest sharply declined. By May 2024, there were only around 5,000 active users. But this didn’t last long. In July 2024, the first major update for Last Epoch, titled Harbingers of Ruin, was released. It brought a lot of new content and caused a massive return of players. Over 71,000 users were simultaneously active at the start of the week, with the feedback being predominantly positive.
